Staggering...

pony. Unnerving experience this morning, probably necessitating the vet YET AGAIN! ( Actually, I was able to cancel him for the eye thing because it got better overnight....she must have just banged it)
Went to turn her out. She was dozing on her feet and was sluggish on exiting the box. I turned her round to tie her up so that I could change her rug but she went a bit loopy and pulled back, rolling her eyes. I told her not to be so silly and flicked her side with the end of the lead rope whereupon she started staggering about, legs all over the place, before toppling towards me. I jumped clear, convinced she was about to fall on me, and she righted herself before hitting the deck. She carried on in this fashion for another 30-45 seconds before standing still and looking as if nothing had happened. Was she more asleep than I realised? Did she have a dead leg? Do I see if it happens again or just get the vet out? She ambled off to the field in her usual manner and seems fine.. It would have been very serious if she had fallen on me...no-one around to extricate what was left of me!

  1. Our neice has recently started a new job as the Head Groom to a very successful and prominent lady horsewoman, whose name I am not permitted to utter.

As a caring Uncle and Aunt, we hope she will marry either (a) the vet or (b) the farrier.

It would save everyone concerned a small fortune...

  2. Good plan! I have a gorgeous farrier AND a gorgeous vet but now I am down to my last equine (from 11 at the peak!), I do not need to implement the highly effective money-saving strategy you so wisely advocate for your niece!

  3. By the way, I hope her employer is an eventer. Eventers are the best!

  4. had a chat with the vet...thinks it was just her arthritis..she lives out usually, so she probably just stiffened up really badly. I have to watch her for signs of neurological disturbance, though, just in case.
